ISTMA EUROPE MEETING IN BOLOGNA HIGHLIGHTS INDUSTRY CHALLENGES

Hosted by UCISAP – Unione Costruttori Italiani Stampi e Attrezzature di Precisione during the MECSPE exhibition in Bologna, ISTMA Europe, under the presidency of Stephan Berz, gathered representatives of the European tooling industry for an intensive exchange on the current state of the sector and the challenges ahead.

The dedicated workshop brought together national associations, global partners and industry leaders to discuss the evolving industrial landscape. Participants shared perspectives on the slowdown in demand in key customer sectors, the shifting dynamics of global markets, and the increasing international competition affecting European toolmakers. The need for structural transformations in European manufacturing and policies as well as their impact on the tooling sector were also central topics of discussion.

Market developments in strategic industries such as the automotive sector and defence were analysed, highlighting both the uncertainties currently faced by suppliers but also the emerging opportunities linked to new technologies and markets, mobility transitions and industrial resilience and safeguard.

Beyond the economic outlook, the meeting once again demonstrated the core strength of the ISTMA network: connection. The event provided a valuable platform for associations and companies to align perspectives, exchange national insights and reinforce cooperation across borders.

Attendees also had the opportunity to visit CNC toolmaking company and Pagani Automobili, a manufacturer of luxury and exclusive cars.

In a period marked by rapid industrial change, participants emphasised that collaboration, trusted partnerships and open dialogue are essential for strengthening the competitiveness of Europe's tooling industry.

The discussions in Bologna clearly showed that while the sector faces significant challenges, it is also determined to address them collectively. By strengthening its international network and fostering collaboration among members, ISTMA Europe continues to support the development and resilience of the tooling industry.

Strong industry needs strong networks.
